The Baritone!

                "..But gold that's more than
                 fairy gold
                 awaits us in the dale.
For all our minted dreams are there
                  where ends the rainbow trail"*

  *excerpt from
"The Rainbow Trail",(Grimes/Eddy) recorded by Nelson Eddy, October 1962

                 "Oh, carry me back
                 to the lone prairie
                 Where the coyotes howl
                 and the wind blows free.
                 And when I die
                 you can bury me
                 'neath a western sky
                 on the lone prairie"*

"The Bandit"

            ...Nobody knows what a load
            I'm bearing.
            Nobody cares it it's rags
             I'm wearing.
             I wouldn't mind if I had
             someone sharing
             Trouble on the dusty road.."*

*excerpt from "The Dusty Road" (Rene/Rene) from the movie "Let Freedom Ring."

"The Lawyer"

               "Ol' Faithful, we rode
                the range together.
                Ol' Faithful, in every kind
                of weather.
                When your round-up days
                 are over
                 there'll be pastures white
                 with clover for you,
                 ol' faithful pal o' mine."*

*excerpt from "Ol' Faithful" (Carr/Kennedy) from The Electric Hour 6/2/46

"The Captain"

"Back in the land rush days, thousands of Easterners packed up and boarded covered wagons for a long, hard trek westward.
Some of these families rode in obscurity, while others were marked by distinction. Some discovered gold and oil, but the ones directly concerning us are those who became the predecessors of the singing cowboys....

Real honest-to-goodness pioneer blood runs through their veins which may be the reason their Western songs have a genuine folk quality. The cowboy has a song for every occasion: "a lament when he's sad, a carefree ditty when he's happy. He sings when he is chasing dogies at round-up time and he sings when he's sprawled beside the campfire after the day's work is done"*
